Release: 1.1 Build date: Thu Aug 20 07:49:46 2026
Group: Unspecified Build host: reproducible
Size: 5832401 Source RPM: github-mcp-server-1.10.0-1.1.src.rpm
Packager: http://bugs.opensuse.org

Summary: Command line client for exploring MCP server tools
mcpcurl connects to any Model Context Protocol server over stdio, retrieves the
tool schema the server advertises and dynamically builds a command line
interface from it: every tool becomes a subcommand whose flags are validated
against the schema.

It is a developer and debugging aid for MCP servers in general and for the
GitHub MCP server in particular. The tool is self-contained and does not
require the server package to be installed.

Changelog

* Thu Aug 20 2026 Martin Pluskal <mpluskal@suse.com>
  - Update to version 1.10.0:
    * Repository deletion is now a confirmed, elicitation-gated
tool (form round-trip, protected state); unknown static
    - -tools names fail closed at startup instead of being ignored.
    * Bearer tokens are sent only to configured GitHub authorities,
and GitHub Enterprise hosts must be HTTPS so credentials are
      not sent in the clear.
    * Lockdown, HTTP request limits, per-caller cache isolation,
raw URL traversal rejection and response sanitization were
hardened; lockdown cannot be relaxed by a request.
    * Symbolic-link file writes require explicit
      allow_symlink_write; get_file_contents identifies symlinks
and labels dereferenced content. Binary MCP resources are no
      longer base64-encoded twice.
    * list_issues and search_issues degrade when GHES lacks issue
custom-field GraphQL types; list_issues returns assignee
logins and stable empty arrays for unassigned issues.
    * Project view lifecycle operations and visible-field
configuration were added; Actions and other successful
      responses were trimmed.
    * add_issue_comment validates mutually exclusive input modes;
      issue_write accepts delete:false as a no-op for strict-schema
clients; omitted arguments are accepted on zero-parameter
tools while explicit null is rejected.
    * Notification subscription tools advertise destructive
behaviour; Copilot review-request denials return actionable
guidance instead of a bare 404.
  - Re-vendor Go modules: github.com/stretchr/testify 1.11.1 to
1.12.0 (test-only; not linked into the binaries). Production
module set is unchanged, so the licence audit stands: all
vendored modules linked into the binaries are MIT,
BSD-3-Clause or Apache-2.0 and no copyleft code is linked.
  - Keep github-mcp-server-root-command-name.patch: upstream pull
request 2998 is still open, and the cobra root command is still
declared as "server" in this release.

  - Update to version 1.9.0:
    * search_issues now performs semantic search by default; the tool
description is initialised according to the host it runs on.
    * issue_read "get" additionally returns the pull requests that close
the issue, as a closed_by_pull_requests object carrying a
total_count plus at most five references (open ones first), so the
answer no longer requires listing pull requests and grepping their
bodies. An issue with no closing pull request serialises an
explicit empty list. Lockdown mode filters references whose author
      cannot be verified.
    * issue_write (and the granular issue tool) can now clear an issue's
type, and validates duplicate closures before applying updates.
    * projects_write gained update_project_items, a batch engine that
resolves and validates shared field updates before executing
ordered, chunked GraphQL writes for up to 50 items at a time, and
reports ambiguous outcomes explicitly; singular name-based Issue
Field updates are supported, and iteration fields are preserved.
    * New non-default find_duplicate tool, gated behind the
duplicate_detection feature flag, with a repo-visibility label on
      its results.
    * list_label results are ordered by issue count, most used first.
    * create_or_update_file documents its content parameter as plain
text that the server base64-encodes itself, resolving a conflict
with the underlying REST endpoint's own docs that made models
encode the content a second time and commit base64 into the file.
    * Generated tool documentation renders union types.
  - Vendored Go dependency set is unchanged from 1.8.0 (identical
go.mod/go.sum, same 41 modules), so the licence audit stands: all
vendored modules are MIT, BSD-3-Clause or Apache-2.0 and no copyleft
code is linked into the binaries.
  - Keep github-mcp-server-root-command-name.patch: upstream pull request
2998 is still open, and the cobra root command is still declared as
    "server" in this release.

  - Initial package
  - GitHub's official Model Context Protocol server, exposing the GitHub
API (repositories, issues, pull requests, Actions, code scanning,
discussions and more) as MCP tools over both the stdio and streamable
HTTP transports, plus the mcpcurl developer tool in a subpackage
  - Add github-mcp-server-root-command-name.patch: the cobra root command
was named "server" rather than after the installed binary, so the
generated shell completions defined a dispatcher for a command that
does not exist and never fired, and --help advertised a "server"
    command. Sent upstream as gh#github/github-mcp-server#2998
  - Do not build the bundled MCP App UI: it is a Vite/TypeScript tree
needing several hundred npm packages that the distribution does not
carry. Upstream ships a committed placeholder so the embedded
filesystem still resolves and guards every call site, so the server
runs normally without the optional HTML app resources
  - Do not pass upstream's "-s -w" link flags, which would strip the
symbol table and leave the debuginfo subpackage empty
  - Build without OAuth client credentials: those are upstream's own and
are absent from the source, so the zero-configuration OAuth login is
unavailable and a personal access token is used instead. Recorded in
the package description rather than left to surprise users
