GPL-3.0-or-later
* Fri Jul 31 2026 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- rmw 0.10.0:
* BREAKING: the meson build option `want_btrfs_clone` is now `with-reflink`
(note the hyphens); update any build scripts that pass it
* build: add GLib/GIO as a dependency (glib2 >= 2.52), used for directory
moves across btrfs/bcachefs subvolumes and in place of several internal
utility functions; require canfigger >= 0.3.2 (was 0.3.0)
* config: configuring waste folders is now optional. With nothing
configured, rmw uses the desktop trash (~/.local/share/Trash) for files
on the home filesystem, and a trash folder on the filesystem itself for
files elsewhere, such as a removable drive
* config: add the "no-add" WASTE attribute. The folder never receives
removed files, but it is still listed, restored from, and purged
* restore: 'rmw -s' now opens at the waste folder nearest the current
directory on the same filesystem, instead of the first one listed (#532)
* restore: 'rmw -s' now dumps the active waste folder when output is not a
terminal, so it can be piped, including in builds without curses
* bugfix: moving a file no longer fails with "Invalid cross-device link"
when the waste folder is on a separate mount of the same device, such as
a bind mount (#552), or on a separate bcachefs subvolume (#526); rmw
falls back to the file's own mount or the next waste directory
* bugfix: a trailing slash on a symlink no longer fails with "Not a
directory" (#450)
* ficlone: add bcachefs support and make cross-subvolume moves safer
(reflink needs btrfs or bcachefs).
A directory is copied in full before the source is removed, so a failed
clone leaves the source intact; timestamps, ownership, and extended
attributes are preserved. Copying a directory with special files (FIFOs,
sockets, devices) now fails with an error instead of hanging
* purge: when purging is disabled (expire_age = 0), a normal run skips the
purge-time file and the purge routine, and the "purging is disabled"
notice prints only for an explicit -g/--purge/--empty. An age (-g90)
still overrides expire_age
* purge: print one progress dot per 100 trashinfo files checked
* output: the startup diagnostic lines (home_dir, config_file, discovered
topdir trashes, ficlone support) now require -vv, and "Created directory"
notices require -v; plain -v keeps the per-file action messages
* restore: add 'x' to the exit keys on the ncurses restore screen
* restore: the ncurses screen no longer flashes when switching waste
folders (#543); the "Reading ..." notice now appears in the window (#531)
* install: fish completions now go to fish's vendor_completions.d (was
docdir), so they load automatically, and the install_shell_completions
option is now honored
* build: pick matching curses and menu libraries, and probe the headers
against the library found rather than whatever is on the system (#579)
* docs: the man page is now authored as MANUAL.md and generated to rmw.1
in the repo root; add a BTRFS AND BCACHEFS section
* testing: add the RMW_DISCOVERY env var (on/off) to control $topdir
discovery; deprecate RMW_FAKE_HOME (set HOME/XDG_* instead)
* refactor: rename btrfs.c/btrfs.h to ficlone.c/ficlone.h, and the
corresponding functions and macro to do_ficlone(), is_ficlone_fs(),
and HAVE_FICLONE
* update project description
* Thu Apr 23 2026 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- Use system-installed canfigger instead of the bundled copy
* Wed Apr 08 2026 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- rmw 0.9.5:
* bugfix: Get path to 'mv' at runtime (used for btrfs)(fixes #509)
* Improve test isolation (#519)
* Tue Nov 11 2025 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- rmw 0.9.4:
* bugfix: Allow rmw to move directories to waste folder on btrfs filesystems
* Thu Nov 07 2024 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- rmw 0.9.3:
+ Add support for cloning(moving) files across btrfs root and subvolumes;
thanks to @luigir-it for suggesting this feature and testing
* Ensure directories respect umask settings upon creation
* bugfix: In some cases, 'rmw -s' crashed with message "*** buffer overflow
detected ***: terminated". This could happen if compiled with
'-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=3' and set up with 'b_sanitize=none', and depending on
the filenames in the waste directories
* Add completion for fishshell; thanks to @ccoVeille
* Fix for tests failing after the Epochalypse (#439); thanks to @bmwiedemann
(boo#1102840)
+ Add French translation (partial)
- drop patches included upstream:
* test-restore-fix-use-Xvfb.patch
* tests-fail-after-epochalypse.patch
* Mon Oct 21 2024 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- Replace tests-fail-after-epochalypse.patch (code introduced in original patch
not fully tested)
* Tue Mar 26 2024 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- fix for tests failing after Epochalypse - add tests-fail-after-epochalypse.patch
Reported by bmwiedemann while working on reproducible builds for OpenSuse
(https://github.com/theimpossibleastronaut/rmw/issues/439)
* Wed Mar 20 2024 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- fix and enable all tests - add test-restore-fix-use-Xvfb.patch
* Mon Mar 18 2024 Andreas Stieger <andreas.stieger@gmx.de>
- rmw 0.9.2:
* Show counter in real-time as items are getting purged
* Wed May 17 2023 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- rmw 0.9.1:
* bugfix: In some cases, trashinfo file doesn't get removed
* Wed Feb 15 2023 Andy Alt <arch_stanton5995@proton.me>
- rmw 0.9.0:
- When purging, '-ff' is no longer needed to confirm removal of
non-writable expired directories and files
* replace function used to remove directories with rm from FreeBSD;
Thanks to @DiegoMagdaleno and @dcantrell
* change message displayed to user when a file being rmw'ed is on a
filesystem that doesn't haven't a WASTE folder defined
+ Ignore requests to ReMove top-level files, add --top-level-bypass option
to bypass the protection
+ Ignore requests to ReMove user's home directory
* bugfix: buffer underflow when calling trim_char() with empty
string (Thanks to Christopher Wellons)
* replace valgrind test setup with asan (-fsanitize)
